This week Jerome Evans and Spencer Scott have a fun, joyful conversation about climate change. Really. I’m not kidding.
In this episode of Bottomless Coffee Podcast our guest Spencer Scott radiates climate optimism and paints a picture of a more regenerative and more equitable future that is worth hoping for and worth fighting for. The linchpin of Spencer’s case for climate optimism is that the changes required to create a more sustainable future are changes that will make the world a better place to live in anyway.
We also get into the defense mechanisms of dissociation and outrage fatigue. Those short term reactions to the seemingly endless onslaught of bad climate news are necessary for the preservation of our mental health but should not rise to the level of an intentional practice. Rather, we should practice hope in the face of climate despair because hope and stewardship are the practices that will get us out of our current climate catastrophe.
Finally, and much to Jerome’s delight, there’s a discussion of Spencer’s new life as a farmer! He and his partner founded SolarPunk Farms and Spencer is kind enough to share a few stories of how life on the farm is going.
