Dixie Treichel is the producer of the audio documentary “Fresh Fruit: 35 Years of Queer Radio” and a current host of the radio program Fresh Fruit, which airs on KFAI. Fresh Fruit is the longest running queer radio program in the United States. In fact, when it launched, it was one of the only ways to experience queer representation. There was no Facebook and Instagram. There was no real broadband internet. For a lot of people, there was ONLY Fresh Fruit on the radio. We sat down and talked about the origins of Fresh Fruit, some notable figures in our LGBTQ history, and the importance of queer media today.
