Bold. Eye-catching. Iconic. These words all describe the very first marketed product of young designer Yvann Filipczak, yoga and architect bags called Le Sac Orange and Le Sac Bleu.
In our conversation Yvann shares how his unique pieces are designed to make people feel powerful. We talk through his early years growing up near the sea in the south of France through his time studying fashion in New York and then to his decision to launch his eponymous label Yvann in Atlanta.
- The process of creating Le Sac Orange and Le Sac Bleu was traditional in the most respectful sense of the world. He worked with ateliers to find and source the perfect Italian leather and then had the bags manufactured in the United States. Each bag bears a tag that boldly proclaims their status as American-made, hardly a coincidence as Yvann recently became a US citizen himself.
- Yvann comes from a family of entrepreneurs. In our conversation Yvann recalls his father operating businesses in countries across Europe and in the United States.
- Despite the boldness of his designs, Yvann himself can present as shy.
- The French news channel France 3 Côte d’Azur produced a 4-part series on a single commissioned piece that Yvann designed for actor Marie-Lou Nahhas (best known for her role in “Orange is the new black”).
- A gallery of designs that Yvann presented for Paris Fashion Week showcases more of his eye-catching (and sometimes quite revealing!) designs.
